When it's time to replace the line, the featured SpeedSpool line replacement system is exceptionally easy to load and rewind, all without removing the spool or taking it apart. The entire trimmer feels exceptionally balanced and comfortable in the hand, and the ergonomic soft-grip D-shaped handle easily adjusts for both right and left-handed users. The trimmer's engine and upper handle is compatible with other Troy-Bilt EZ-Link attachments (sold separately), a feature that allows you to turn your trimmer into an edger, cultivator, hedge trimmer, blower, or pole saw. The trimmer comes with all the necessary oil for immediate operation, and is covered by a 2-year limited warranty.
Customer Review: Will not hold up beyond 2 seasons of use!
I got the TB-70SS from Lowe's thinking it would suffice for my homeowner needs (trimming/edging every 1-2 weeks) but it did not make it into its third season now. The first problem I had, as a few other reviewers also said, was with the bump-feel head which got beaten up after a few uses (and I know how to us a trimmer). Reloading line into the bump-head, which jams shut, meant getting the whole toolbox, spraying WD40 and hoping it would open. Regardless it took at least 20 minutes. I also had problems with the trimmer getting bogged down in a slightly bigger clump of weeds. The engine/clutch assembly is pretty heavy but doesn't have much power. In my second season of use the engine/clutch started giving me problems - the engine RPMs would redline without squeezing the trigger and at the end of the season (possibly due to the engine issue above) the clutch wore out and the trimmer's useless. This after following all the maintainence/storage instructions in the owners manual to the letter! Another issue - If you use this trimmer for edging (which you flip it over 90 degrees) you will notice that the fuel tank cap faces downward and the cap and the seal/washer inside are made of cheap material and they will start leaking fuel and I don't need to tell you the hazards of that alongside the hot engine. As another reviewer stated - good luck finding replacement parts (even filler caps) for this. Overall this trimmer was built with cheapo components, was never really thought-out and tested in the design/build phase. Never buying a Troy-Bilt again. For my third season I have purchased a Shindaiwa T222 which is from their HomePro line. Yes it cost a 120 dollars more than this piece of junk but you will feel the difference the mmoment you pick one up and use it. I just used it to get rid of some large weed growth from the winter and it just demolished the big, thick patch of weeds. The power is outstanding, its lighter than the TroyBilt, ergonomics are great and the best feature is that it has the Speed Feed bump-head which never takes more than 30-45 seconds to reload. See the video at, http://www.shindaiwa.com/usa/en/technology_2/speedfeed/index.php The only catch is that you will have to go to an authorized Shindaiwa dealer to purchase one (the don't sell them online). My suggestion to readers considering the TB70SS - it seems cheap right now but in a year or two you will regret your purchase. Put down some extra money right now and get something better like Shindaiwa or Stihl.
Customer Review: Line feeder is a problem
I purchased the model TB70SS String trimmer with cultivator attachment. All works well except for the line feed heads that came with the unit. Does the bump feed let out line? Absolutely, but the bump head uses entirely too much line. Never had this problem before with any other trimmer. The entire spool (15-20 ft of line) empties before the job is completed. I tried the bonus fixed line head that came with the unit but it is useless because the line keeps flying off the head while in use. I even went back to Lowe's to ask and ensure I was attaching and locking the line correctly. I am disappointed as this is my first Troy Built unit. I never had this problem with other brands in the past 20 years. I asked TroyBuilt on-line if they had any suggestions. They gave me their warranty blurb and told me to go to an authorized repair center. Did they not understand that there is nothing wrong with the unit except for their design? I guess I will get a universal head and try that. Not impressed at all with their answer or on-line support.

Troy-Bilt TB57 12-Inch 20-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Electric Straight Shaft String Trimmer
Customer Review: Great battery - good motor - fairly poor design
I love the battery on this trimmer and the motor is quite strong for a cordless. I wish that Troy-bilt would get its act together and release the other garden products that were listed on the box, especially the chain saw. As others have found the trigger switch is useless. I had to rig up something that would keep it pressed for me but allow me to switch off for the frequent hand feeds of the trimming cord. I think that it only feeds when you first turn on the unit but that doesn't work if you want to do a continuous stretch like I do. I would also have liked to see the unit have an adjustable tilt head like the Craftsman and Black and Decker do. I still value the Troy-bilt trimmer for its new age battery but the overall system is quite poorly designed.
Customer Review: oh my aching hands
I purchased a tb57 today, and was impressed with how quickly it can go to work out of the box. In 4 hours the battery was fully charged. Set up was quick and easy....i did not even look at the instructions. Upon testing it became quickly apparent that the unit does not telescope out far enough, requiring me to stoop over to "get er done". Then....after about 15 mins it became painfully apparent that the trigger is way too stiff. My fingers were cramping up....i had to switch hands constantly to allow my fingers to recouperate. After about 45 min i was more exausted than if i had used my heavier gas powered trimmer. The gas trimmer is long enough & makes a clean cut in 1-2 passes.... with the tb57 you must make 5-7 passess while somewhat hunched over to get the same results. Yes it is powerfull enough.....but just barely....so it takes longer to get the job done & with more effort. So.... on one hand you get a hassle free start up....little noise and no smelly fumes....on the other you get a poorly designed unit that will make you work harder than need be & curse the idiots that allowed such a product into the market with obvious flaws. Another positive point is the battery and charger....they seem high quality and work well.....the battery has a button you can push to see how much of a charge is left. After finishing the yard i stll had 3/4 of a charge left, not bad at all. If they made it a bit longer and fine tuned the trigger....this would be a great product worthy of 5 stars....but they rushed it and as a result it works, but kinda sucks....thanks guys at Troy Biilt...YOU BLEW iT !! If you have a small yard...this may work out well for you...but to those with larger areas to maintain i would say you would be better off finding a more suitable alternative. ADD NOTE - Ok, i want to update this evaluation as i have spent more time with it and i want to clarify a few points. As far as the power goes, it IS strong enough to cut most weeds you will encounter. It just takes a little longer to do it than with a gas trimmer. And it IS great to be able to "grab and go"...i absolutely love the lithium ion battery and charger. It charges relatively quick and holds a rather large charge, giving you roughly 2 hrs use. And it will not develope a memory so you can re-charge at any point. It IS so nice to not have to mess with gas & oil. The TB57 is an instant action accessory that is ready when you are. The spools are quick and easy to change, although....the spool is smaller than my gas trimmer so i will end up changing the spool more frequently. I duct taped down the trigger safety eliminating that nuisance, so it is a little easier to use in that regard. The more i use it, the more i like it. I think having two trimemrs is the way to go. A gas one for the spring tough stuff....and an electric one for weekly trimming. Because it is a "hassle free" system, i find myself trimming more often & my lawn looks better for it. in fact, i think i will likely use it today. The TB57 has earned my respect and a place in my arsenal of weed whacking weapons.

Customer Review: TRIMMER REVIEW
A GOOD PRODUCT, EASY TO START, PLENTY OF POWER HOWEVER A BIT OUT OF BALANCE, SHAFT COULD BE ABOUT SIX INCHES LONGER AND A BETTER BUMP HEAD THAT SCREWS ON SO IT COULD BE REPLACED WHEN NEEDED.
Customer Review: Don't waste your time!
This is a piece of Junk. This weed eater will cause you to pay for repairs. I have had 2 of them and my neighbor's second one broke also. Ask a small engine repair man about Troybilt and watch his reaction! The carb on the Troybilt is so temperamental and will gum up, stall or will not work at all, I have spent $60.00 on repairs, this weed eater is only used sparingly and my yard is not that big! I had a Ryobi for years and never had a problem, save your money, buy a Stihl!!!!!!

Troy-Bilt TB525CS 17-Inch 29cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Clutched Curve Shaft String Trimmer
The question, then, is whether you're willing to put up with a little more weight or sacrifice some HP in order to have a clean, quiet cut. (In some states, this decision may already have been made for you-there seems to be a trend toward mandating that two-cycle engines be retrofitted with catalytic converters.)
If the answer is yes, then Troy-Bilt's 29 cc curve-shaft trimmer is a great option. At 13 pounds it's lighter than older four-cycle models, and it has a wide 17-inch cutting swath. It features "SpringAssist" starting, which means you don't have to yank on the pull-cord-a slow and steady pull will get the thing started. This trimmer is well-balanced, and the curved shaft and adjustable D-handle make for comfortable use. Like most trimmers, this one includes a bump-head line release; Troy-Bilt's "SpeedSpool" system means quick, easy line replacement. As an added bonus, it's compatible with interchangeable Troy-Bilt attachments, too.
Overall, a powerful trimmer that's comfortable to use, clean, and quiet. Two-year limited warranty. For a comparable trimmer with a straight shaft, see Troy-Bilt's model #TB575SS.--Josh Dettweiler

Customer Review: line feed has issues
I purchased this trimmer from a local Lowe's & don't know if the problems I encountered was a Troy-Bilt or a Lowe's problem. I suspect that it's both. The trimmer started with some effort, but once running it was powerful & worked well UNTIL I had to change the line, then the trouble started. I followed the directions very carefully & every time the line started to advance ON ITS OWN (not bumping the head at all) & in 1 minute the line was all gone. I tried to restring several times but no luck. Took it back to Lowe's & got the lame excuse "I'm not familiar with that head" & got put into another TB trimmer (the TB514CS). That trimmer also had line feed issues with similar results from Lowe's (see my review of that trimmer on this site & the Troy-Bilt site). I have had great results from a Homelite 2-cycle trimmer that I have used for many years, replacing the string on the spool and all with no problems, so it's not like I'm inexperienced with trimmers & lawn equipment. So now I have no working trimmer & will definitely try a different retailer. The manager at Lowe's got an earful however.
Customer Review: Line feed was a problem
Bought this one at Lowes 3 weekends back. Starting the trimmer was a very smooth operation. Just followed the procedure exactly the way they had described. It vibrates quite a bit, but you get used to it. After exactly 3 feet of trimming the string broke. I tried bumping the head to release the line but that didn't do anything. Opened the head to find out that the string had welded inside to the plastic and wouldn't move. So had to remove and wind both the strings again. After about 20 feet more the string gave way again. Again, followed the instructions to release the line, by bumping it on the surface, didn't work. I opened the head again and found out this time the string was just stuck and wouldn't move. After about an hour of fighting around I gave up. Started the trimmer the next weekend and had to stop 3 times to fight with the string release. On the 4th try, I emptied the gas tank, drove back to Lowes, and got my money back. I am now again on a lookout for a 4-cycle trimmer.

Factory Reconditioned Weed Eater SST25 17-Inch 25cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer
box was in bad shape, but every things was there. Shaft was a little bent but nothing a little elbow grease couldn't handle. Works great after initial start up
Customer Review: Does the job...
My SST25 arrived this afternoon, and my first impression was that they sure didn't package it very well. The box was open at one end, and the gas cap was not on the unit. The cap was in the box, but how it became detached, is hard to figure out. After some minor assembly, I took off the gear area plug, and discovered that there was almost no grease on the gears. I filled it with grease, and then filled the fuel tank with gas mixed with 100:1 Amsoil 2 cycle oil. I followed the procedure to start it, and it started just fine. After a few minutes, it started to die, so I gave it some gas, and adjusted the idle screw, which was set a bit too low. After that, it idled just fine. I used it for about 2 hrs., with only one stoppage, caused by very heavy weeds getting wrapped around the line spool. I filled up with gas again, and did another 2 hrs. of weed cutting, and it performed better than I ever thought it would, especially after reading some of the reviews. It never died, and cut through some rather thick stalks (11/2"-2"). I killed it 3 times to rake the cuttings, and it always re-started with a few quick pulls. I either have a better machine than many people received, or maybe the use of a 100:1 oil mix made it run much better, but I am very pleased with the Weedeater's performance. I would even have given it 5 stars, but the packaging and the provided shield are really marginal.

Poulan Pro 17-inch 33cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Curved Shaft Attachment Capable String Trimmer #PP033
Customer Review: Poulan Pro String Trimmer
The PP033 was very easy to assemble out of the box, thanks to the attachment feature. The ability to turn it into a blower, tiller, or edger ,makes it versatile and easy to assemble/disassemble. The attachments for our Ryobi are interchangeable. It comes with the pre-measured bottle of two cycle oil, and, when fueled, fired right up. It has a very powerful 33cc engine that will do any job around our house. One disappointment is that it does not come with a shoulder strap. The unit is quite light, but holding any weight for an extended period of time is hard on your back. Next time, Poulan should add the strap for convenience and safety. Overall, a very usable and powerful machine.
Customer Review: A beefy machine, but not too bad.
I bought this string trimmer with the hopes of using its 33cc motor with attachments in the future. Right now it is strictly a string trimmer. Out of the box, I realized this thing is beefy. It is heavy! Walk away right now if you are looking for a lightweight trimmer. It does come with a small bottle of 2 cycle oil. Once I filled it with gas, the first start was slow to come. I discovered that the choking system is poorly designed (basically on/off). Starting is best handled by holding the throttle ever so slightly open. After about 45 minutes of use I burned through an entire tank of fuel. The tap string feeder works pretty good with .080 string. I tried the .095 string and it works ok. I recommend .080 for the standard use and the .095 for along chain link fence. Bottom-line it runs good, works great, it's heavy, but with the 33cc engine it should handle the attachments better than the average string trimmer.

Black & Decker AF-100-3ZP String Trimmer Replacement Spool With 30-Feet Of .065-Inch Line - 3 Pack
Customer Review: A better value than I expected
I really hesitated before purchasing a cordless Black & Decker weed eater, in part because of the automatic-feed string system. I've owned my cordless Black & Decker NST2018 string trimmer for a few years now, and have had no problems with either the machine itself, or these associated string replacement spools. The price of this string may seem high, but Amazon has consistently beat the prices of local retailers. Amazingly, a 3-pack lasts at least one year of moderate weekly use. With this product, I can replace string in only a few seconds and with no cursing needed.
Customer Review: Incorrect product for edger
Incorrect item. The spools were supposed to be the double stringed ones for a newer grass hog edger.

Poulan PPWT62522 Pro 22-Inch Cut Wheeled String Trimmer with 14-Inch High Rear Wheels and 6 HP Engine (Non-CARB Compliant)
Customer Review: Poulan PPWT62522
This tool came out of the box and went together easily. However, after starting the drive system the belt was thrown off the engine pulley and continued to do so every time I replaced the belt. I called Poulan and they gave me the name of a local authorize dealer/repair station. Being familiar with the local dealer I took the machine apart myself. Apparently the guy in cell #27 in Beijing ran the drive actuator cable under the drive belt and not over the drive belt. Once corrected the machine ran fine without further problems. It is too bad that products are not made here in the USA anymore.
Customer Review: great trimmer
It arrived from the factory with a broken handle--Poulan had one shipped to me 2 days after I contacted them about the problem (amazon offered to ship a complete new unit immediately)--- now working the trimmer exceeds our expactations. Thanks to Poulan and Amazon for their excellent customer service
